White Memorial Presbyterian Church
Raleigh, North Carolina
GFBA provided design and site construction documents for toddler and pre-school play areas providing accessibility and age appropriate play equipment integrated into a creative and secure layout. In addition to active play areas, the design included facilities for creative play and a teaching/performance area.
Our work at White Memorial Presbyterian Church has included many significant projects including:
The planning and design of the Edwin Pickard Memorial Garden, a walled columbarium for the internment or scattering of ashes.
New playgrounds for toddlers and preschoolers attending the White Memorial Weekday School, featuring accessible play structures, fall attenuating safety surfacing, playhouses, and a performance/learning area with seating.
Renovations to the Carol Copeland Courtyard, which not only serves as an important gathering area for many family and group activities, but also serves as the main entrance portal for the adjoining building spaces.
Improvements at the intersection of Oberlin Road and McDonald Lane that included brick accent walls, brick walkways, and ornamental planting.
As a result of these imrovements, White Memorial was the recipient of the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance, in the Community Category, 2000.
Jury Comments: "This upgrade to church facilities displays great effort to make the church campus a part of its neighborhood. The well-designed walls, walks, planted area and play areas and play areas have become a community commons where friends and neighbors can meet and converse."
